Remote workers now having issues with phones

I have a couple issues with some of our remote workers and am trying to figure out the best solution. When all of our employees were working in our offices we have the network setup with the modem in passthru and a security appliance with all the QoS and traffic shaping rules applied. We rarely ever had any phone issues.

Once the stay at home order was put in place all of our employee took their computers home with them and some started having phone issues. Some of the issues include their soft phone not being able to answer a call that is ringing, when they try to answer it appears to create duplicate incoming calls (See screenshot). Another phone issue is that some of our agents are logged into their queues but they show as unavailable even though their soft phone show they are registered. We know this because we have an optional extension destination setup that transfers the caller into an IVR that gives the caller options for how to proceed since the agent isn’t available. Another issue that has been reported is their soft phone might only ring once or twice and then another agent receives the call and answers it so the initial agent gets a RINGNOANSWER which is used in our agent KPI’s.

My initial guess on the cause of the issues is ISP problems or I suspect their Modem/Router combo provided by their ISP is mangling the packets. I have had a couple of our agents log into their router and see if there was a SIP ALG setting they could turn off but most of these consumer routers provided by the ISP don’t have QoS or traffic shaping rules, also turning SIP ALG is not an option in most of these devices. I am curious what other people do for their remote workforce? Do you have them change out the ISP provided router with something else? Would using a VPN tunnel help? What are some of the troubleshooting steps I can do to help track down where the problem is?

For fun I tried to update the password to a new password in the freepbx.conf file and using the SQL command, but it didn’t work. Any ideas? We are hurting without this box. Cant seem to restore without DB access too.

Unknown peer - without anonymous on

Hi All,

I’m sure this has been asked a lot, but I am trying to get incoming calls working without turning on ‘anonymous on’. I’ve searched around the forums but cant find a definitive answer.

I have an incoming SIP Trunk from my telco, all incoming calls come from the same IP. Works fine if it turn anonymous calling on. But there must me some setting I can use on the Incoming trunk that will allow the calls without turning this on?

Many Thanks.

Dial-In Number?

Hi All.

Just wondering if its possible to use FreePBX to bridge two external calls. Maybe via the IVR?
For example, can someone use there mobile to make a international call via the PBX so the company picks up the costs rather than the user?

In Summary:
External Caller —> Spare Number —> Auto-Attendant --> Enter PIN --> Dial Tone for outgoing call.

(P.S. I am aware of toll fraud issues, this is just a temp. workaround)

Many Thanks, J

Broken script - little detial

@comtech wrote:

FreePBX/Asterisk 14

I had an issue with MySQL and the freepbxuser pw being out of sync (they weren’t, updating the pw to match the freepbx.conf file yielded 0 changes).

Long story short, I ran the following two commands (which made about 54 changes):
update freepbx_settings SET value = ‘’ WHERE value = ‘[Old Password]’;
update freepbx_settings SET value = ‘[Old Password]’ WHERE value = ‘’;

This restored database connectivity, and got everything back up and running. No problems yet, but I have a concerning message on the Dashboard:
Capture

The name of the script on the error is the password I ran through the update command. I think when I ran the command I overwrote something I shouldn’t have, but am not sure where to look to fix this? Any ideas what script name I overwrote? Where are the “freepbx_settings” in the MySQL dB?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi All,

Funny issue on my brand new install of freePBX. everything working using IAX2 trunk with provider, inbound routes and outbound routes all working as expected. One little issue

When dialling a mobile number that hits reject call instead of picking up the call and the mobile service has no VM or forwarding, instead of hanging up the call the pbx calls the number again and again.

I would expect that the call once rejected by the mobile user would hang up on the pbx.

Am I missing a setting?

thanks for your help

This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary
or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built,
or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.

We will try our best to scrape up some info that will hopefully help
diagnose the problem, but since we have already crashed,
something is definitely wrong and this may fail.

It is possible that mysqld could use up to
key_buffer_size + (read_buffer_size + sort_buffer_size)*max_threads = 466718 K bytes of memory
Hope that’s ok; if not, decrease some variables in the equation.

Odd inbound issue, calls stop working after one dial in

We have two companies we run out of the same office. I originally set up our PBX to just handle one of the companies but have since decided to use it for both. So I ordered a DID for the other company and set it up to where when you dial in it hits an extension. I can dial in and I see the call connect and all is well. So now I tried calling in again, and nothing… I dont see the call even hit the system… Its like its not leaving the provider. I can make it work again by deleting and rebuilding the trunk but that seems like the only way to make it work.

I built another FreePBX virtual box to see if it was the provider and its not as I can get calls in on that box no issue through the DID and settings in question. Its been up and working for 12hrs and works every time. I would actually leave it like this but my server is at a different location than my office phones and It would be an utter pain in the butt to poke more holes in my firewall and play with different ports to make this work.

Anyone ever see this before? Could it be something in the NAT or on the network side? I’m kind of lost on this… Or if someone knows a decent work around that I may have not thought of yet…

Thanks folks!!

Hello,

Running FreePBX 13.0.197.22.

Strange issue, people are able to dial 7 digit numbers and have them go through just fine. But, when a 10 digit number is dialed, FreePBX doesn’t even seem to acknowledge the dialing was done. Using Grandstream HT801 ATA’s. Some people, it’s working fine, others it’s not. Any insight would be useful.

Hello

I don’t have a USB to Serial Console cable and wanted to know if there is a way to access the Console port on my FreePBX 60 via the LAN port on my Lap Top? Is there a piece of software that I can download to make this happen?

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

Hi ,
I am experiencing call drop issue at specific timings (for example, Monday 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm). Other times the system is working fine. Another issue encountered is that when two people simultaneously call then all inbound and outbound calls drop. I did not change anything in the configuration. The issue started from last week. Is anybody experiencing such issues.
Thanks in advance.
